Vintage Movie Posters has heard that Brad Pitt is to star in Escape To Victory remake.

June 14th, 2010

“The Great Escape 2″-well almost. I have heard rumours that the character Capt. Virgil Hilts made famous by Steve McQueen in the 1963 film is set to make an appearance in Vinnie Jones’ proposed remake of “Escape To Victory” this time being played by none other than Brad Pitt… After being transferred from Stalag Luft III to Stalag 17, the setting for “Escape” the action the action starts. It maybe that a pre-title sequence involves re-shooting the famous motorbike stunt at the finale of “The Great Escape” with Pitt. Not sure yet if Pitt will be included in the starting 11 or in a coaching role. Also rumoured to be making appearances are Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe, John Terry, Steven Gerrard & Frank Lampard…Other stars who have been approched and are likely to appear are Jason Statham, taking Sylvester Stallone’s role as the goalkeeper - Hatch (Statham has previously played a goalkeeper for Vinnie in another remake; the 2001 “Mean Machine”…Michael Caine is due a cameo role but reprising his original character of Capt. John Colby is likely to be Jude Law, no stranger to taking on characters previously made famous by Caine.

With a summer shoot pencilled in for 2011 using Pinewood and locations in Slovakia expect interest in this production to increase dramatically especially if England do well in the World Cup.

…Forget David Beckham that is lively tabloid newspaper gossip…but a lot of current and ex-footballers are itching to be involved and with no International football commitments next summer there are likely to be a lot of people for Vinnie to chose from.

Classic Films of All Time

April 13th, 2010

Whether you consider yourself a bona fide film buff or just know what you like, everyone has a special list of films that they will never tire of watching. Yet there are certain films that enjoy a wide and often unexpected appeal among those that understand the finer points of filmmaking and these so-called `classics` tend to avoid that common cinematic fate of being forgotten within a year of release. Certain directors seem to have something of a Midas touch when it comes to producing classics whereas other top films are the result of unique collaborations that are never repeated. An obvious example of the former is the work of Quentin Tarantino with the vast majority of his films achieving cult classic status, including Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs and, more recently, the two-volume Kill Bill, a blood-spattered tale of a female assassin`s revenge.

Classic films are by no means restricted to the cult movies and indeed every genre has its masterpieces. Within the romance category, some of the best include the famous love triangle of Casablanca with its dramatic ending; the unconventional love story of Pretty Women; and the charming An Affair to Remember with Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr. More recent movie love stories tend to offer quirkier characters and unusual perspectives and some of the best modern romances might not even be considered romantic films: think Amelie, Juno and Slumdog Millionaire.

Action films sometimes seem to flood the cinemas and nowadays there seem to be no shortage of big-budget drivel crammed with special effects and little more. Yet some of the best films ever made fall into this category and deserve to be savoured. The Indiana Jones films, especially the original trilogy, are certainly up there with their exhilarating adventures and subtle humour. Also making the list is the original Die Hard, which still manages to impress despite the various follow-ups becoming progressively more tedious. No list of classic action films would be complete without at least one appearance from 007 and the title of best Bond film is unlikely to ever find a consensus. However, for those new to the series, a fantastic place to start is the excellent Goldfinger, starring Sean Connery.

Film fans of all tastes can appreciate a truly classic film when they see one and often owning the DVD is not enough. Collecting movie memorabilia is a popular way to express our love for the cinematic greats and there are some excellent pieces available if you know where to look. Film fans can express their passion with collector`s edition DVD sets, t-shirts or on-set photographs of their favourite stars in action. One of the most popular items sourced by movie enthusiasts today are classic film posters. These look great framed and given pride of place in a bedroom or study. Thanks to the rise of the internet it is now much easier to locate film posters and other movie memorabilia online from web-based retailers and online auction sites. It is a good idea to do some research before buying to establish how rare the piece you have your eye on is. With this information it is far easier to decide on your maximum price and to stick to it.

Damien Hirst: Is he all that ? Well Vintage Movie Posters certainly think so with this original UK quad movie poster for “Live Forever”….

March 25th, 2010

In 2003 John Dower’s Brit Pop documentary “Live Forever” was released….Featuring the talents of Oasis, Blur, Pulp, Jarvis Cocker, Noel Gallagher, Liam Gallagher, Damon Albarn, Toby Young and Damien Hirst.

An excellent documentary capturing the phenomenon of the Britpop passage. It is worth noting that I think that even if you didn’t get the whole Britpop experience it is still worth watching to try and understand exactly what the period of time tried to encapsulate. Dragging Britain from a period of being totally dormant, to generating great music and creating an aura of genuine invincibility.

A highlight of the film has to be the Damien Hirst designed  UK quad movie poster. A real eye catching, talking piece poster for a movie that quickly became a cult classic. Genuinely scarce and in very short supply due to its print run of only 1,500 copies and very limited cinema release. Never commercially available I suspect that only around 500 are currently in circulation making genuine examples even more desirable.

Limited Edition Damien Hirst prints regularly sell for £1,000+ so this original  ”Live Forever”
http://tinyurl.com/ybcrvva UK quad movie poster represents exceptional value at only £ 150.00. Not only that but it looks really cool !

IS “BURN AFTER READING” THE NEW “VERTIGO”; MOVIE POSTER ? THIS SAUL BASS INSPIRED ORIGINAL MOVIE POSTER IS SET TO BECOME A MODERN CLASSIC.

June 22nd, 2009

With the TV series “HOUSE” now back on our screens (SKY 1 9.00 pm Sunday’s) I have had several enquiries from people wishing to purchase a “Vertigo” 1958 movie poster. This is the striking poster proudly displayed in the office of House’s best friend Dr. James Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard).

Spanglish movie download

The Vertigo movie poster is considered a true classic amongst collectors. Not just because it is one of Alfred Hitchcock’s best films but primarily for the design and artwork by Saul Bass who to many has produced the perfect poster. Comprising a mysterious central image and stark background color, with a minimum of distracting text. However perfection doesn’t come cheap, I sold my last Vertigo movie poster to a private collector for in excess of £ 3,000. It is becoming increasingly scarce to acquire with premiums being asked for examples that grade very fine plus or are unrestored.

If your budget doesn’t stretch to the thousands of pounds I can honestly recommend a much cheaper alternative in the movie poster for the Joel and Ethan Coen movie “Burn After Reading” 2008. Design company MOJO,LLC have produced a very heavily Saul Bass influenced poster for the 2008 movie starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Frances McDormand. This is genuinely scarce for a modern poster with many dealers predicting this to be a modern classic. The pricely sum of £ 40.00 buys this modern classic and for more details please follow the link.

A STUNNING SELECTION OF ORIGINAL ITALIAN MOVIE POSTERS AND UK QUADS FROM THE 1970's ARE FEATURED ON THE NEWLY UPDATED VINTAGE MOVIE POSTERS HOMEPAGE.

May 26th, 2009

The Vintage Movie Posters Homepage has just been updated and includes some fantastic new additions to the website.

In Featured Items we have highlighted a small selection of our original Italian movie posters including one of the best painted examples you will ever see in “4 For Texas”, incredible artwork from Averardo Ciriello. This particular piece has recently been linen backed and is ready to frame…it is absolutely stunning. And don’t forget our unique home trial service. Where we will happily travel to you with a selection of posters so you can see how they look in the flesh, so to speak. Whilst there is no doubting the quality of “4 For Texas”

I can’t let the blog pass by without mentioning the kings of 80’s glam rock excess “KISS-Attack of the Phantoms”. If you are a fan of the group then this extremely rare poster is for you.

Not to be outdone by some of the finest posters ever I thought the “What’s New” section could feature some of the best UK Quad posters from the 1970’s. From the iconic “Jaws” and “Star Wars” to the sheer black and white simplicity (brilliant because of this) of the Joan and Jackie Collins shopping and shagging soft porn romp “The Stud”.

VINTAGE MOVIE POSTERS REVEALS THE PLOT FOR NEW JAMES BOND MOVIE #23

May 25th, 2009

After a very interesting breakfast meeting at Pinewood Film Studios this morning it was revealed to me that one of the front runners in terms of plot for the new James Bond movie currently in pre-production is a reimagining (definitely NOT a straight remake) of On Her Majesty’s Secret Service

голова болит секс

. Originally filmed in 1969 with one time only Bond George Lazenby. Relatively gadget free with an excellent plot focussed around some great alpine set pieces it appears the perfect antidote to the rather lacklustre Quantum of Solace голова болит секс голова болит секс

  • голова болит секс

.

Stumbling block #1 currently is the ending with Bond marrying the lovely Contessa Teresa di Vicenzo. Admittedly this was an extremely short romance in the original, but like Quantum of Solace immediately following on from Casino Royale, the script writers are allowing for a honeymoon period before the new Mrs Bond meets her demise at the beginning of Bond #24. Nothing like a decent death to open a movie.

Most of you may be surpised that Bond previously so in love with Vesper in Casino Royale jumps into marriage ?? Not when you hear that Eva Green the aforementioned Vesper Lynd is due to make her second appearance in a Bond movie as Vesper’s TWIN SISTER !

Stumbling block # 2 can Daniel Craig learn to ski ?

Admittedly not really like my previous blogs, but thought this information (if they go ahead with this plotline) is to juicy to keep to myself.

Remember; You heard it hear first !

WEREWOLVES, WOLFMEN AND WOLFWOMEN ARE THE LATEST ADDITIONS TO THE FEATURED ITEMS AT THE VINTAGE MOVIE POSTERS HOME PAGE

April 21st, 2009

Well, we’ve had romantic teenage vampires, lesbian vampires and even underage (Let The Right One In) baby vampires, but 2009 is likely to be the year when the WOLFMAN makes his comeback.

I was lucky enough to visit Pinewood last year and was on set during the filming of Benicio Del Toro’s new movie THE WOLFMAN. A true remake of the 1941 Lon Chaney Jr classic. I fully expect this movie to jump start this woefully neglected horror genre in the same way as The Howling and An American Werewolf In London did in the early 80’s.  Early footage shows a mix of CGI and prosthetics as Del Toro transforms from Lawrence Talbot to the titular monster.

In tribute the VINTAGE MOVIE POSTERS has been updated to include some really great and rare items in its FEATURED ITEMS section, including a very rare set of THE HOWLING lobby cards and a beautiful US Insert from Hammer’s 1961 production CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF. My personal favourite, although by no means a classic is the exquisitely titled 1971 “masterpiece” WEREWOLVES ON WHEELS. As the tagline says “This Gang Thought It Was Tough… ’til it found a new type of hell…The Bride of Satan!”…They just don’t make movies or produce taglines like that anymore.

THE VINTAGE MOVIE POSTERS HOMEPAGE HAS BEEN UPDATED TO INCLUDE A FANTASTIC SELECTION OF FRENCH AFFICHES IN FEATURED ITEMS AND UK QUADS IN WHAT’S NEW.

January 30th, 2009

The Vintage Movie Posters Homepage has just been updated and includes some fantastic new additions to the website.

In Featured Items we have highlighted a small selection of our French “Affiches” including one of the best vampire movie posters ever in “Vampire Circus”, incredible artwork from Bob Peak and Jean Mascii on “Enter The Dragon” and “Planet of the Apes” respectively. But for me the pick of the bunch is Kalki Creations take on “Quadrophenia”.  An absolutely stunning original poster created to look like a pinball machine. Very, very colourful and extremely rare. This is the only copy I have ever come across.

http://www.vintagemovieposters.co.uk/shop/gbu0-prodshow/quadropheniafrench.html

What’s New focuses on UK Quads from the stunning Drew Struzan artwork on wacky supernatural comedy “Beetlejuice” to the simplicity of the Dan Chapman / Kevin bachman designed “Basic Instinct”.  My personal favourite out of those featured in What’s New has to be “Planet Terror”. This poster design is unique to the UK and extremely desirable. Aside from that it is probably the best poster produced from Robert Rodriguez’s zombie, horror romp. Remember when admiring this poster “Humanity’s last hope…rests on a high powered machine gun…”
